Panchaloha idols seized

VISAKHAPATNAM:
Ancient panchaloha idols, valued at Rs.5 lakhs, were seized by the City Task Force police in a raid conducted near the Port Stadium on Friday.
On a tip-off, SI N. Anand and his team conducted the raid and arrested four persons when they were trying to dispose of the invaluable idols. The accused - G. Appala Raju, T. Adinarayana, S. Ramesh and B. Narayana Rao - all natives of Chodavaram in the district, claimed to have received the idols from one Rangayya of Kurnool. Rangayya was yet to be arrested.
Of the 31 idols seized, most were of Lord Ganesh. The rarest one was one of Bala Ganapathi. Some of the idols date back to the 12th, 13th and 16th centuries. The accused were handed over to the four-town police for investigation.
