NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, might be known for its brand of engineers, but it has now set its sights on research. With its intake of postgraduate students much more than in its undergraduate courses, IIT Delhi will be conferring the highest number of Ph.D degrees in all the IITs this year at its Convocation here on Saturday. Of the 1,285 degrees being awarded this year, more than 60 per cent are postgraduate. Thirty per cent of the income of the Institute is from sponsored research projects. "Sponsored research projects with a funding of Rs. 27.54 crores were undertaken this year. In addition, consultancy assignments worth Rs. 11.84 crores were also undertaken," said IIT Delhi Director Surendra Prasad at a press conference here on Friday. The Institute is also looking to expand its infrastructure to cater to more students.
