Woman robbed of cash, gold ornaments

She is living alone in the house

BANGALORE: A man broke into a house in Mahalakshmi Layout police station limits in the early hours of Friday and robbed an elderly woman of Rs. 1,500 in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs. 75,000.

The police said the incident took place around 3 a.m. at the first floor house of Anasuya on 4th Main, Srikanteshwranagar. The robber, who entered the house by breaking open the main door with a crowbar, threatened Anasuya (63) with a knife and robbed her of the cash and ornaments.

After her husband Venkatappa Shastry, a lecturer, passed away, Anasuya has been living alone in the house, the police said. The Mahalakshmi Layout police have registered a case.

Chains snatched

Motorcycle-borne men snatched gold chains from two women in separate incidents reported from Jnana Bharathi and Indiranagar police station limits on Thursday.

The police said that around 8.30 p.m. two men, who came on a motorcycle, approached Vijaya in 11th Block, Nagarabavi, and enquired an address. As she was guiding them, they snatched her chain worth Rs. 60,000 and sped away. Vijaya, an employee of the Commercial Tax Department, was taking her daughter Deepti (6) to a clinic when the incident occurred, the police said. The Jnana Bharathi police have registered a case.

In the other incident, a youth snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 20,000 from Vasanthi Rao, a housewife, at Defence Colony in Indiranagar police station limits.

Around 8.30 p.m. while Vasanthi was returning home from Sri Krishna temple, the youth snatched her chain and escaped on a motorcycle on which his accomplice was waiting at a distance, the police said. The Indiranagar police have registered a case.

Student attacked

Three men stabbed a student and attempted to extort money from him in Vijayanagar police station limits. The incident that took place on Wednesday afternoon has now come to light.

The police said that while Chetan, a second year PUC student, was returning home from a cyber café, three persons approached him and tried to extort money from him. When he resisted, they stabbed him on the forehead and hands with a knife and ran away, the police said. On a complaint by Chetan, a resident of RPC Layout, the Vijayanagar police have registered a case.

Cellphones recovered

The Devarajeevanahalli police have arrested Khaleem alias Nayeemullah Khan (22) of Anwar Layout on charges of theft and recovered from him 17 mobile phones, together worth Rs. 1 lakh.

In another case, the City Market police have arrested three persons on charges of robbery and recovered from them four mobile phones and Rs. 200 in cash. The names of the arrested were given as Mujahid (25) of Cottonpet, Raju (21) of Davangere and Prasanna (19) of Chintamani in Kolar district.
