Nominated permanent observer on inter-basin task force

Coimbatore: The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage has nominated K. Palanisami, Director, Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies (CARDS), at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), as one of the permanent observers on the Task Force on Inter-basin Water Transfers.

A release said that this international assignment would facilitate sharing of information on the on-going inter-basin water transfers in different countries and make necessary policy suggestions to the Government on such projects. Prof. Palanisami, who was formerly the Director of the Water Technology Centre at TNAU, is already a member of the Permanent Finance Committee, and the Research and Development Committee of the International Commission. The third meeting of the Task Force will be held from September 12 to 17 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Experts from various countries would participate and share their experiences on inter-basin water transfers.
