COIMBATORE: Teachers should update their knowledge of Information Technology, said M.N.G.Mani, dean, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute here on Friday. Inaugurating the college association of Dr.N.G.P College of Education, he said B.Ed colleges should focus on providing computer education to its students. "Children of today are very well-informed. They are very intelligent. Teachers may have to learn first in order to teach them," he added. Mr. Mani stressed that the importance of creativity in teaching had grown with the advances in Information Technology. Teachers have to constantly update their teaching methodology, keeping in touch with the changing times. He told students that B.Ed was not a knowledge-based course but, a skill-based one, which aimed at moulding teachers who would encourage students to think rather than mug up lessons. More than the knowledge of the teacher, it was the attitude that mattered to students. Mr. Mani said in a study that he had undertaken among higher secondary school students, it was the affective domain traits of the teacher that appealed to students more than their knowledge.
