Quality of research work declining: Patil Puttappa

Staff Correspondent

Need to follow strict guidelines while selecting topics stressed

DHARWAD: Veteran journalist Patil Puttappa has criticised the declining quality of research work for which doctoral degrees are being awarded by universities.

Delivering the Dr D.C. Pavate Memorial Endowment Lecture at the "Educational Experts Day" organised by Karnatak University here on Friday, he underscored the need for following strict guidelines while selecting topics for taking up research.

Mr. Puttappa recalled the days of Dr. Pavate as vice-chancellor of Karnatak University, who led the university for 13 years.

Dr. Pavate was an expert in identifying hidden talent among students and encouraging them, he said.

Presiding over the programme, A. Murigeppa, in-charge Vice Chancellor of the university, said the university shot to fame because of the vision of Dr. Pavate. Registrar Vinay Luthra welcomed the gathering. Registrar (Evaluation) Sanjay Shettannavar proposed a vote of thanks.
