Chandy calls for early solution to waste dumping problem

Staff Reporter

Says the Government should take employees into confidence

KOZHIKODE: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, who was in the city on Saturday, visited the Corporation's waste dumping yard at Njelianparamba on the outskirts of the city.

The Opposition leader said a solution should be found to the problem of waste dumping, which was causing difficulties to residents in the area.

Inaugurating the State conference of the Kerala Panchayat Employees Organisation (KPEO), Mr. Chandy said the Government could successfully coordinate its activities only when there was a unity among the public, the Government and its employees. For this, the Government should be ready to take the employees into confidence. The UDF Government had only effected Civil Service transfers with a value-based and principle-based approach. He demanded that the Government review the transfers of State president, general secretary and district-level office-bearers of the organisation, including women employees. He alleged that these transfers effected without any criteria and it did not befit a democratic Government.

He called for the modernisation of panchayat functioning by appointing more staff. KPEO State president P.C. Velayudhankutty presided.

The former Minister for Local Administration Kutty Ahmed Kutty delivered the keynote address. KPEO general secretary T.V. Udayabhanu and KPCC general secretary K.C. Abu were among those who spoke on the occasion.
