CHENNAI: On a day of high drama, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) MLAs, who were evicted from the Assembly on Saturday, resorted to a 40-minute road roko in front of Fort St. George. Led by deputy leader of the AIADMK legislature party O. Paneerselvam, they alleged that Minister for Higher Education K. Ponmudi used some "objectionable words." On their return to the House, following a request from Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Mr. Paneerselvam asked whether it was fair to let the Minister go unpunished for using those words while suspending AIADMK member Agri S.S. Krishnamurthy for the rest of the session on a similar ground. Leader of the House K. Anbazhagan said the utterance of Mr. Ponmudi and that of the AIADMK MLA were not the same. If the Speaker had heard any objectionable remark, allegedly made by the Minister, he would expunge it. There was no scope for further action on the issue, he said. The Speaker said his ruling on Mr.Krishnamurthy could not be questioned. Mr.Ponmudi, on his part, denied using "objectionable" words. However, Mr. Paneerselvam insisted that Mr. Ponmudi should at least apologise. With the Speaker brushing aside his plea, he led his party MLAs out.
