Pondicherry: Pharmacists in government hospitals here will go on mass casual leave for a day on Monday in response to a call by the Action Committee of Pharmacists. Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, committee convenors S. Govindaraju and E. Sekhar said anomalies in the entry-level pay structure of pharmacists and in other wings were stagnant despite the report of the Fifth Pay Commission for the upward revision of pay scales. They demanded that the government refix entry-level pay at Rs.5,500-9,000 as against Rs.4,500 now. There was also shortage of pharmacists in government hospitals, they said. The Madras Medical Code's prescription was that there should be one pharmacist for every 100 patients in the government hospitals.
