GUNTUR: State and Central Government investment in education sector has come down considerably over the years, which is telling upon the quality, opined Association Saikorian president MVK Rao. Members of the old boys association of Sainik School, Korukonda, met here on Saturday to chalk out the future course of action and ways to fund welfare activities. The Saikorians opined that the school, which used to provide education and boarding to meritorious students, was charging ranging between Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 60,000 as the Government support had stagnated at Rs. 8,000 per annum per child. While the school requires Rs. 2.5 crores for running it properly, the Centre was releasing Rs. 1.25 crores and the State Government was not fully matching the grants. .
Fun time
It was a fun-filled get-together for students from 1962 to till recent times and the first half of the first day they meant serious business finding ways to improve their resources and membership. The association was constructing a 20,000-sq.ft. building for streetchildren at Gowdavalli on Hyderabad outskirts (near Medchal) at an investment of Rs. 1.5 crores. While it had found sponsors from within the community, Rs. 60 lakhs was donated by `Friends Indeed' an NGO, Rs. 15 lakhs by Apex, said C. Krishna Babu, a chartered accountant.
