BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday took exception to the fact that a petitioner had unnecessarily dragged a Government official to court and imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 on the petitioner. The petitioner, Parthappa of Chittapura in Gulbarga district, had filed a contempt of court case against sub-inspector D.T. Prabhu. His allegation was that the police officer had violated a direction issued earlier by the court. The court noticed that Mr. Prabhu was not connected with the case as he was not working at Chitapura during the period when the court issued certain directions. A Division Bench comprising Justice S. R. Bannurmath and Justice Subhash B. Adi, on finding that a false complaint was made against Mr. Prabhu, directed the petitioner to pay Rs. 5,000 cost to the police officer.
Compensation
The High Court has held that the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal has erred in not considering the gross income of an employee of a erstwhile Karnataka Electricity Board, who died in a road accident, while awarding compensation to his family members. The tribunal had awarded Rs. 8.08 lakh as compensation to Mohammed Khaleel's wife and children while considering only the basic income Rs. 7, 550 - of the victim. The court enhanced the compensation to Rs. 12.77 lakh.
