BANGALORE: A total of 47,443 new syllabus students (36.84 per cent) and 11,210 old syllabus students (20.01 per cent) were declared passed in the second pre-university examination of July 2006. The results were announced on Saturday at all the pre-university colleges and on the website (http://puc.kar.nic.in). In all, 1,28,764 new syllabus and 56,009 old syllabus students had appeared for the examination, conducted in 280 centres throughout the State from July 10 to 22. Girl students scored better with 42.81 per cent under new syllabus and 22.09 per cent under old syllabus. For boys, the pass percentage stood at 32.72 and 19.06 respectively. Rural candidates fared better with a pass percentage of 37.81 under new syllabus and 21.14 under old syllabus. For urban candidates, the pass percentages were 36.55 and 19.74 respectively. Candidates from Dakshina Kannada topped the district-wise results, with a pass percentage of 54.86 while Bidar was last with 17.17. Commerce students fared best with a pass of 39.6 per cent, followed by Arts (39.33) and Science (31.43). Kannada medium students fared better with 38.73 per cent pass compared to English medium students with 34.59 per cent pass.
Re-totalling
Re-totalling applications are available in the respective colleges. Candidates keen on re-totalling should send their applications to the Commissioner, Pre-University Education, Sampige Road, 18th Cross, Malleswaram, Bangalore 560012. The last date to submit re-totalling applications is August 28 with a fee of Rs. 200 per answer script or subject. Candidates can apply for photocopies of evaluated answer scripts and for revaluation.
