TIRUPATI: Arrangements are on for the Janmashtami festival in various temples and religious institutions in Tirupati. Radha Govinda Mandir, run by the International Society for Krsna Consciousness (ISKCON) at Alipiri, is getting a facelift befitting the occasion. The highlight of this year's arrangements is the plan to install dioramas in and around the temple, representing various mythological events from Srimad Bhagavatha and Sri Krishnavathara. Artists from ISKCON's Kolkata headquarters have arrived to make icons and models to be installed in the dioramas.
Schedule
The three-day festivities will begin on Tuesday with distribution of prizes to the winners of the various competitions conducted recently by the ISKCON. On Wednesday, bhajans by devotees with percussion instruments and a range of cymbals mark the `Janmashtami' celebrations, while `Maha Shankabhishekam' will be conducted at 11 p.m. `Utlotsavam' to be conducted in the evening is expected to attract a large number of youths. The birth star of ISKCON founder Srila Prabhupada will be observed on the third day, which will be marked by lectures on his glories and a programme `Pushpanjali' - to pay tributes by the members of the ISKCON order. A cultural troupe Prabhat Kalavidaru of Bangalore will be performing dance dramas `Virata Parvam', `Bhakta Sudhama' and `Mohini Bhasmasura' on the three days. `Gokulashtami' will be observed in the form of a `Go Pooja' at the TTD's Dairy Farm on Tuesday, when the Executive Officer will offer prayers to the cattle. `Divya Mahamantra Japa' (Lord Venkateswara's names written 7 crore times) will be offered for the fourth consecutive year to the `sthupam'. On the occasion, Sri Vanamali Charitable Trust will be conducting a Vishnu Sahasranama Parayanam by Sriman Kondamacharyulu at Gokula Nilayam in Dwaraka Nagar, while Amuktamalyada (of `Swarabhishekam' fame) will be giving a Kuchipudi dance concert.
