KOTTAYAM: Kerala Congress (Secular) leader P.C. George, MLA, has urged the Government to convene an all-party meet on the safety issues connected with Mullaperiyar dam. Talking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Mr George said the issue of dam safety was once again in focus following the series of tremors in Erattupetta and Poonjar areas on Thursday. He said the area had been experienced tremors of varying intensity over the past few years and the century-old structure over Periyar at Mullaperiyar was only 50 miles away from the spot. He suggested that if there was any hitch in calling an all-party meeting on the Mullaperiyar issue, it could be placed on the agenda at the meeting scheduled on August 16 to discuss the Vizhinjam issue. Mr George, who had extended his services to the LDF to arrive at a settlement with private college managements, said the only way out of the present imbroglio in the professional higher education sector was to find a mutually acceptable settlement. Mr George appealed to all stakeholders to desist from making provocative statements, as the talks were going on.
