HASSAN: Chief Executive Officer, Hassan Zilla Panchayat (ZP), F.R. Jamaadar, has directed Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), Dena Nayaka to preserve foodgrain supplied to schools in the district for preparing midday meal. At the Karnataka Development Programme meeting here on Saturday, he also asked him to convene a meeting of Block Education Officers (BEOs) to guide them in this regard. Joint Director for Agriculture, Mahesh Gowda, said at the meeting that with low rainfall in Arsikere and Channarayapatna taluks, there was a possibility of farmers losing crop worth Rs. 7.2 crore.
Crop withers
Farmers cultivated various crops on 11,789 hectares in Arsikere taluk and the crop withered owing to lack of moisture. Similarly, of the 28,195 hectares under cultivation in Channarayapatna taluk, crops on 15,494 hectare withered. While the estimated crop loss in Arsikere was 5.82 crore, it was 1.38 crore in Channarayapatna taluk. Zilla panchayat president Annappa Shetty had directed the horticulture authorities to distribute saplings to farmers, when the climate was conducive for horticulture crops. Irked by the absence of senior officials of various departments at the meeting, Mr. Jamaadar cautioned them and said they should be present at the KDP meeting, as it was an occasion for the district authorities to take stock of the progress in various areas.
