NEW DELHI: Expressing concern at a "significant rise" in emotional and psychological problems among school children, noted psychiatrist Samir Parikh said here over the weekend that there is a dire need to focus on the child's formative years in school. Speaking at a seminar on "How to handle emotional issues in school children", Dr. Parikh observed that students belonging to different age groups have different behavioural patterns and emotional needs and each growing child needs to be treated with the right emotional back-up. "The diversity of children's needs may vary from physical, psychological, social, educational and vocational to emotional areas. To maintain a regular follow-up to these changing needs of the child, every parent, teacher or counsellor should appreciate, identify and then cater to their needs in order to provide a conducive, peaceful and productive frame of reference for children's effective growth," he added.
