Lalitha Sahasranama at Vidya Kendra

NEW DELHI: Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Sat Sangam, R.K. Puram, in association with Sri Sankara Vidya Kendra has organised Lalitha Sahasranama Parayanam, Deepa Puja and Sri Lalitha Homam on August 15 at the Vidya Kendra premises on Paschim Marg in Vasant Vihar here. The programme will begin with Vigneswara Puja and end with the homam.

In the afternoon, Vijayalakshmi Subramaniyam will render devotional songs. V.S.K. Chakrapani will accompany her on the violin and N. Padmanabhan on the mridangam.

"Van Mahotsav" celebrated

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Division of Northern Railway celebrated "Van Mahotsav-2006" here on Saturday.

Northern Railway officials, staff and their families took part in the tree plantation drive. Besides bio-diesel plants, ornamental flowering trees and bushes of different varieties were also planted in residential areas of the city, railway stations, workshops and sheds.

Employees of the Northern Railway Officers' Association, All-India OBC Railway Employees' Association, All-India SC/ST Railway Employees' Association and All-India RPF Association also came forward to assist the participants in the noble cause.

National Remote Sensing Day

NEW DELHI: Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Delhi Chapter, in association with SEARCH Foundation and Indian Institute of Sustainable Development, New Delhi, organised "National Remote Sensing Day-2006" here on Saturday.

National Remote Sensing Agency, Hyderabad, Director K. Radhakrishnan -- who inaugurated the function -- emphasised the need to promote awareness and capacity building for a sustainable environmental campaign to save the planet. He said one reason for the current interest in remote sensing was that it allows researchers to measure or note changes in the delicate balance of ecological systems.

New AICC member appointed

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Jaiveer Nagar has been appointed a member of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC).

In a statement, Mr. Nagar thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi for his appointment.

Patriotic play

NEW DELHI: Students of Lakshmi Bai College here celebrated Independence Day with a patriotic play `Hamara Swatantra Bharat' on Friday. Directed by Dr. Saroj Gulati, convenor of the Hindi Dramatic Society of the college, the play highlighted the sacrifices made by school children of Patna during the Independence movement.
