CHENNAI : `Mozart Meets India,' an album that blends Carnatic melody with Western classical music, will be released here on August 25 by Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi. A project of Tamil Maiyam, which also gave the world `Thiruvasagam in Oratorio' by Maestro Illayaraja, `Mozart Meets India' will be launched with a live performance at the Music Academy the same day. Union Ministers, media personalities and Carnatic artists will be present. `Mozart Meets India' is an effort to create a global albumbased on six Carnatic ragas Sankarabaranam, Kapi, Panthuvarali, Bilahari, Sindhubhairavi and Hamsadhwani. Rev.Jegath Gaspar, of Tamil Maiyam, said in `Mozart meets India,' both Carnatic and Western classical music traditions would keep their individual grammar, discipline and identity. Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Rev.Gaspar said it was an attempt to explore and create music that would transcend genre, culture and make Indian classical music inclusive and relevant to modern generations. He clarified that `Mozart' in the title was used as a tribute to the composer, whose 250th anniversary was being celebrated across the world. Nellai Jesuraj, a young musician from Tirunelveli district, composed and orchestrated `Mozart meets India' and veterans, including Kadri Gopalnath, Bombay Jayshree, O.S.Arun, Embar Kannan and Arun Pandian, who plays the lead guitar for Carlos Santana, participated. The orchestra comprised over 60 instrumentalists and 40 chorus singers.
