Woman charged with murder set free

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court set at liberty a woman labourer awarded life imprisonment for murdering a man who attempted to rape her.

Malathi (33) and her husband Mani were charged with attacking and murdering Murugan (30) in April 2001 when the deceased attempted to sexually assault Malathi. The Kolathur police arrested the couple. While Mani died during the pendency of the case, Malathi was found guilty by a sessions court and was awarded life imprisonment.
