Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in parts of Tondiarpet on Monday for maintenance work.

Blood donation

A blood donation camp was conducted by the blood bank of the Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu at Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Ltd., Ambattur, organised by B.Ravichandran, honorary secretary, St. John Ambulance Association, Rangarajapuram.

Coaching classes

The Young Men's Indian Association (YMIA) will be conducting coaching classes for the IAS preliminary examination from the third week of August. Classes will be held on Saturdays and Sundays. Contact the YMIA on 66, Armenian Street, or over 2522 1654.

Hamsadhwani anniversary

Hamsadhawani will be celebrating its 17th anniversary starting Thursday at 5.30 p.m. in Narada Gana Sabha. The Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award will be conferred on S.S. Badrinath, chairman, Sankara Nethralaya. Sudha Raghunathan will inaugurate an exclusively Tamil songs series with a concert. O.S. Sundara Baghvathar will perform Namasankeertanam on Friday and B. Krishnamurti, a vocal concert on Saturday at the Youth Hostel, Second Avenue, Indira Nagar.

Bhajan competition

The Thamizhnadu Brahmin Association, Mandaveli will be conducting its 15th annual inter-school bhajan competition on Sunday at the Kanchi Mahaswamy Anantha Mandapam, 2, Second Main Road, Gandhi Nagar, Adyar. About 600 students from 33 schools will be presenting bhajans in groups from 8.30 a.m. onward. A diabetes screening camp will be held at the same venue from 8 a.m.

Craft fair

The `Craft's Man Fair' is on at the Sri Sankara Hall on 267, TTK Road, Alwarpet. Various handicrafts, handloom and jewellery items from across the country will be on display.

Man found dead

at Koyambedu

A 35-year-old man was found dead in Koyambedu market complex on Saturday.

Police identified the deceased as S. Ravi of Thozhudur.

He was working as a cook and was staying on the pavement inside the market complex. Someone had attacked him with a cement slab.

Police suspected that it could be due to quarrel among a group of persons residing on the pavement.

Koyambedu police have registered a case and are investigating.
