TAMBARAM: In yet another burglary in the Selaiyur police range near Tambaram, gold jewellery weighing over 50 sovereigns and Rs. 20,000 in cash was stolen. The burglary took place at the house of Dorairaj, a retired professor, on Vasuki Street, Vigneswhara Avenue in Rajakilpakkam. Mr.Dorairaj had gone to a relative's house in Vellore. In the evening, his wife gone to a friend's house nearby. When she returned an hour later, she noticed the rear grille door broken open and the valuables missing. Selaiyur police are investigating. The house is located near the Sembakkam lake and the culprits reportedly scaled the compound wall of the house from the rear portion. The Selaiyur range has become one of the most crime prone areas in the southern suburbs. Several major burglaries, apart from chain snatching incidents, thefts, assaults on jewellery storeowners, were reported in the past couple of months. Residents are aghast at the ease with which the culprits have been striking at will. Culprits broke into the house of a retired government hospital dean at Dhanalakshmi Nagar, also in Selaiyur police limits, in June and took away jewels weighing 20 sovereigns. A couple of months ago, a doctor's house in Ganesh Nagar was targeted. Sources said the involvement of highly trained and professional operators could not be ruled out. Even special teams investigating similar offences have no clue to who the perpetrators are.
