Akali Dal MLA held on rape charge

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh police on Saturday arrested Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Gaganjit Singh (44) on the charge of raping a maidservant working in the official flat allotted to him. He is the son of Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandigarh, Gaurav Yadav said that on the basis of the statement given by the victim, preliminary investigations, medical reports and circumstantial evidence, the police arrested Gaganjit Singh. A case under Section 376 of the IPC was registered.
