Woman run over by lorry on airport flyover

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A woman, who fell off after an empty bag swept by wind got stuck in the front wheel of her scooter, was run over by a lorry on Begumpet airport flyover on Saturday.

The victim K.V. Rama, 33, was going from Rasoolpura junction to Begumpet on her Honda Activa scooter, when the accident took place around 6.30 a.m. in the middle of the flyover. "From what we understood after examining the accident spot, an empty cement bag got stuck in her scooter's front wheel," Begumpet Inspector J. Subbirami Reddy said. Apparently confused as the vehicle started wobbling after the bag got stuck in the wheel, the woman slammed on the brakes. Marks on the flyover suggested that the scooter skidded and she fell off to her right side. A lorry laden with sand coming behind her ran over her head and she died instantaneously.

A partially damaged helmet was lying on the road.

"We are not sure if she wore the helmet," the Inspector said. The woman, a resident of Sainikpuri, was working as administrative executive in S.V. Interior Designers at S.R. Nagar.
