Manjunath
BANGALORE: A 23-year-old youth was stabbed to death, allegedly by his cousin, at his house in Chamarajpet police station limits here in the early hours of Saturday. The police said the assailant stabbed Manjunath in the chest and abdomen with a knife. His body was found in a room on the first floor of his house at Bhakta Markandeya Layout in Valmikinagar. Manjunath had recently passed the B.Com course from PES College in Hanumanthanagar. His father Renuka Kumar is a conductor with the KSRTC and was away on duty in Tamil Nadu when the murder took place. The police said Manjunath's cousin Mallesh, son of Renuka Kumar's sister, murdered him as he has refused to lend him Rs. 50,000. The Chamarajpet police, who have registered a case, are on the lookout for Mallesh. According to the police, Mallesh is a resident of Kolar. He was in love with a girl in Kolar and the girl's brother was reportedly demanding Rs. 50,000 from Mallesh for the marriage. After a gap of 18 months, Mallesh came to his uncle's house here on Friday. After dinner around 8.30 p.m., Mallesh, Manjunath and his younger brother Bharath went to a room on the first floor of the house. They were later joined by one of Mallesh's friends, suspected to be the girl's brother. When Mallesh asked Manjunath to lend him Rs. 50,000, he refused. According to Bharath, around 1 a.m. Mallesh and his friend threatened Manjunath with a knife. After they warned Bharath of dire consequences, he came to the ground floor and went to sleep. When Bharath went to the first floor room in the morning, he found his brother lying dead and he immediately informed his mother Lalitha, the police said.
