Dacoits loot cash, ornaments from house

BANGALORE: Five armed dacoits struck at an industrialist's house in Rajarajeshwarinagar police station limits on Friday. They looted gold ornaments worth Rs. 2 lakh and Rs. 2,500 in cash.

The police said the incident occurred around 9.30 p.m. at Rajendra Kumar's house in 5th Stage, BEML Layout.

While Kumar, a bachelor, and his mother Mahalakshmi (75) were at the house, some one pressed the calling bell.

When Kumar opened the door, the dacoits pushed him and entered the house. They threatened Kumar and his mother with knives and made them sit on a sofa.

Later, the intruders looted gold jewellery and the cash from a safe, the police said. The dacoits were aged around 25 and spoke Hindi and English. Four of them had covered their faces.

Kumar owns an agro products unit at Peenya, the police said. The Rajarajeshwarinagar police have registered a case.

Two persons robbed

A driver and his accomplice robbed two persons, who took a lift in a BPO unit vehicle, of mobile phones and cash in the early hours of Saturday.

The police said that around 1.30 a.m. Manju and Ravi, employees of a bar and restaurant situated near Rajiv Gandhi circle in Seshadripuram, boarded a BPO unit vehicle from near their workplace to go their houses in Hegganahalli.

After travelling some distance, the driver and his accomplice, who was in the vehicle, threatened Manju and Ravi with knives and robbed them of two mobile phones and Rs. 3,800 in cash. Later, the two pushed Ravi and Manju out of the vehicle near the railway tracks at Yeshwanthpur and sped away, the police said. The Yeshwanthpur police have registered a case.

Recovered

The Hennur police have arrested G.L. Sreenivasa (27) of Kengeri on charges of theft and recovered from him electronic goods and a goods autorickshaw. The accused had burgled a warehouse in Kengeri, the police said.

Farmer ends life

A 27-year-old farmer committed suicide on Friday after a herd of elephants destroyed sugarcane crop on his farm at Hodike Hosahalli near Channapatna in Bangalore Rural district.

The Channapatna police said Srikante Gowda consumed poison. The police said he had taken a huge loan to raise the crop and the destruction of the crop by elephants shattered him. A herd of 13 elephants had strayed into the fields two days ago and the police and forest officials had driven them back into the forest near Alur, the police said.
