Man arrested on molestation charge

NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old man has been arrested by the Central Delhi police for allegedly molesting a three-and-a-half-year old girl at Nabi Karim in Central Delhi on Friday night.

According to the police, the accused Pervez was arrested after the victim's parents informed the police. The accused had caught hold of the victim when he found her alone on the road. Further investigations are on.

Alleged liquor smugglers held

NEW DELHI: Four persons have been arrested by the South-West Delhi police for allegedly smuggling liquor into the Capital. The police have seized a Matiz car and Canter truck and claim to have recovered 200 cartons of illicit liquor.

According to the police, two of the accused -- Harmit Singh and Ganesh -- were arrested at Dwarka on Friday. The police recovered 20 cartons of illicit liquor from the car.

At their instance, the police intercepted a Canter truck and recovered 180 cartons of illicit liquor. Two of the occupants, Pushkar and Jitender, were arrested at the spot.

Investigations revealed that the liquor recovered from Matiz car had been procured from Gurgaon, while the consignment seized from the Canter truck had been brought from Chandigarh. The police said the accused were planning to sell the illicit liquor in various slum clusters of the Capital. Harmit, Ganesh and Jitender have earlier been booked under the Excise Act.

Further investigations in the case are on.

Urdu editors'

meet today

NEW DELHI: More than 100 editors of Urdu dailies and periodicals from across the country will meet here on Sunday to discuss the problems plaguing Urdu journalism and evolve a mechanism to overcome them. The conference will be inaugurated by Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh at the India Habitat Centre. Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, Youth and Sports Minister Mani Shankar Iyer, Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will attend an interactive session with the editors.

ACP remanded

NEW DELHI: An Assistant Commissioner of Police, arrested by CBI on the charge of taking bribe, was on Saturday remanded to three-day police custody by a court here. ACP Pritam Pal Singh and his alleged conduit Gurmeet Singh were remanded till August 15.
