Talukdar, Dola top the charts

KOLKATA: Jayanta Talukdar and Dola Banerjee emerged as the best in the National-ranking prize money archery championship that concluded at the SAI, Eastern Centre here on Sunday.

Talukdar of Jharkhand, arguably the best male archer in the country, logged 133 points to top the 16-man Asian Games probables list, while Dola of Railways, led the eight-member women's field with 60 points.

The Archery Association of India will hold the final trial at Jamshedpur from September 8 to 11 to identify four men and as many women for the Doha Asian Games to be held in December.

Talukdar won the third Olympic round contest beating W. Ranjan Singh Junior of Manipur while former National champion Runu Swargiary of Jharkhand downed Reena Kumari of Railways in the women's section.

Compound: Men (final): Ratan Kumar Singh (Ser) 114 bt Aryabrat Debas (CRP) 106; Third place: Paltan Hansda (Jha) 113 bt Babban Kumar (Jha) 108. Women (final): Jhano Hansdah (Jha) 113 bt Kh. Bhegyabati Chanu (Jha) 109; Third place: Sakro Besra (Jha) 111 bt Manjudha Soy (Jha) 109.
