`Maoists' on the lookout for Congress legislator?

Staff Reporter

Youths enter Ramaiah's lodge, enquire about his whereabouts

ANANTAPUR: Two persons pretending to be Maoists allegedly went to a lodge belonging to the family of Congress legislator Jonna Ramaiah at Kadiri on Sunday morning and enquired the legislator's whereabouts.

Quoting one Mahesh, a nephew of Mr. Ramaiah who was in the reception when the incident happened, the police said that around 11 a.m. a person approached the reception while another waited outside. The intruder had called Mahesh outside and took him aside on the pretext of talking to him about "an issue".

Money demanded

The intruder then identified himself as a Maoist and told him that another person was waiting outside. By showing a revolver, he sought to know the whereabouts of the legislator from Mahesh.

Then, at gunpoint, the intruder demanded money from Mahesh. Later, the intruder and his accomplice escaped by going into the nearby streets.

Later, Mahesh informed the matter to his family members and the police.

The legislator was in Anantapur when the incident occurred. He took the matter to the notice of the Superintendent of Police.

The police conducted a search for the intruders in the town later, but in vain.

The police also arranged security at the legislator's lodge and residence and asked him to take precautions.
