KSCA XI crowned champion

Bangalore: Host Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) XI emerged champion in the Fair and Lovely Menz Active Twenty20 cricket tournament for the Bradman Cup at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Sunday night. KSCA, runner-up last year, won the title after defeating Chemplast Sanmar by 12 runs in the final.

Chasing 144, Chemplast Sanmar was precariously placed at 29 for four after Hemang Badani spooned a lofted drive straight to Vinay Kumar at short mid-on off B. Akhil. A rain intervention forced a revision of the target to 119 in 15 overs as per the Duckworth Lewis method.

Resuming after the rain-break, skipper S. Badrinath's full-blooded straight drive was plucked inches off the ground by B. Akhil (three for 17) in his follow-through and the rest just caved in while failing to cope with the challenge of a galloping required run rate. R. Satish (37 n.o.) tried his best but with 23 runs required in the 15th and final over bowled by N.C. Aiyappa, it was a lost cause.

Earlier, KSCA opted to bat and nearly ruined the decision as it slumped to 39 for four in five overs . C. Raghu's (55, 45b, 6x4, 1x6) knock helped the host score 143 for nine in 20 overs while R. Satish grabbed four wickets.

In the afternoon, Chemplast Sanmar defeated ONGC by 51 runs, topped Zone A and qualified for the final.

The scores: Final: KSCA XI 143 for nine in 20 overs (C. Raghu 55, R. Satish four for 20) bt Chemplast Sanmar 106 for nine in 15 overs.

Zone B: Chemplast Sanmar 169 for six in 20 overs (Hemang Badani 84) bt ONGC 118 in 15.4 overs. — Principal Correspondent
