TUMKUR: The Congress has accused the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition Government of neglecting Tumkur district in terms of its development. Tumkur District Congress Committee president S.P. Muddahanume Gowda told presspersons here on Sunday that the Government had excluded Tumkur from the list of drought-hit districts. He said Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy led a delegation to the Centre recently and sought drought relief for Raichur, Gulbarga, Bijapur and Chamarajanagar districts only. Tumkur district, which was reeling under severe drought, did not figure in the memorandum submitted to the Centre by Mr. Kumaraswamy. He said farmers depended on rain for cultivation. Ragi, groundnut, and other crops had been affected owing to scanty rainfall. Mr. Muddahanume Gowda said work on the Hemavathy project had come to a standstill for want of funds. The coalition Government lacked the political will to commence work on the Upper Bhadra and Netravati projects, he alleged.
