THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram retained the overall title in the 54th State senior aquatics championships which concluded at the Water Works Swimming pool here on Sunday. Thiruvananthapuram, which came first in both the men's and women's sections, finished with 434 points ahead of Thrissur (356). Wayanad came a distant third with 69 points. Southern Railway men and Thiruvananthapuram women won the titles in water polo. The final day saw another six records being rewritten with K.C. Sreejith of Thiruvananthapuram erasing one of the oldest record from the books in the men's 200m butterfly stroke event. Sreejith despite facing little opposition swam to a new mark by clocking 2:18.12s and in the process broke Binumon Chacko's (CISF) old record (2:22.42) set in 1998. V. Remya also bettered another long-standing in 200m IM by clocking 2:42.21s. Remya bettered the record set by her namesake (2:42.21) in 1998. The other records were set by B. Praveena (50m butterfly), L.G. Muralikrishna (800m freestyle), J. Siju (50m breaststroke) and Anoop Augustine (200m IM). Anoop Augustine and Josna P. Joy (both from Thrissur) were the individual champions in men's and women's section respectively. Kerala Sports Minister M.
