HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said that the Government will not go back on its promise to supply of Bureau of India Standards (BIS) certified pumpsets to the farming community. According to a press release issued by the Chief Minister's Office on Sunday, Dr. Reddy said that the pumpsets would be supplied in a phased manner and there was no question of any farmer being left out. The Government intended to supply over 24-lakh pump sets at 80 per cent subsidy. Making light of the doubts raised in certain quarters about the cost of the scheme, Dr. Reddy told officials from the Energy Department that what ever the cost, the Government would ensure that everybody gets it. He asked officials to constitute district-level committees comprising farmers, farmers association and local elected representatives. Dr. Reddy pointed out that the scheme would benefit poor and marginal farmers, who would be able to save 30 per cent energy. The Chief Minister said that the officials should be careful in selecting the best quality pump sets duly certified by BIS. Special Chief Secretary (Energy) A.K.Goel, APTransco Managing Director Rachel Chatterjee and others attended the meeting.
