KARIMNAGAR: The Health Department Joint Director, J V Subba Rao visited the district recently and conducted a workshop on the Infant Health Insurance Scheme. The Government had launched the young infant health insurance scheme in the State to reduce infant mortality rate. The Government had chalked out strategies to reduce the neonatal mortality rate from 44 for every 1,000 deliveries to 20. Incidentally, the mortality rate is high among the SCs and STs. Among the SCs it is 95/1000 and the STs 103/1000. The aim of the programme is to ensure that there are no deaths of children below three years of age. According to an official release here, the Government would distribute four vouchers to mothers after delivery. The mother can take her child to any private medical practitioner and avail free treatment after showing the voucher. If the child is less than 2.5 kg after birth, the Government would issue eight vouchers for his/her treatment in Government and private hospitals.
