IGNOU educational programme

NEW DELHI: A Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) has been signed between the Union Power Ministry and the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) here.

The collaboration envisages laying the foundation for cooperation and joint action to support the development of educational programme in power distribution management and rural energy management besides establishing a national network for joint collaboration for skill development and capacity development.

The MoC was signed here in the presence of Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Power Secretary R.V.Sahi, and IGNOU Vice-Chancellor S.C.Garg.

A free eye camp

NEW DELHI: A free eye camp will be organised by Tarun Mitra Parishad in association with Mitthan Lal Jain Charitable Trust at St. Suji Joseph School in Kondli on August 19. According to Parishad general secretary Ashok Jain, a medical team of St. Stephen's Hospital will examine the eye patients, provide them medicines and select cataract patients for free operation. All the patients will get free medical facilities, medicines, boarding and lodging and lens.

Symposium on peace proposal

NEW DELHI: With a view to stem conflict and foster a culture of peace, Bharat Soka Gakkai (BSG) organised a symposium here this past week on Dr. Daisaku Ikeda's 2006 Peace Proposal "A New Era of the People: Forging a Global Network of Robust Individuals''.

Held for the third year in a row, the symposium was part of the BSG's ongoing efforts to engage peace activists and work towards creating a climate of mutual respect and understanding.

Every year since 1983, Dr. Ikeda has been presenting peace proposals on behalf of the Soka Gakkai. In these, he offers solutions to the questions of human security and world peace based on Buddhist ideals and philosophy.

Blood donation camps

NEW DELHI: PT Education will conduct blood donation camps at all its 50-odd centres across the country on the eve of Independence Day. In the Capital, the camp is being conducted in coordination with the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences. It will be held on the AIIMS campus on Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Youth Campus Awards presented

NEW DELHI: Fifty students from different Delhi University colleges were presented the "Youth Campus Award-2006'' over the weekend. The award, instituted by the Bihar Jan Chetna Samiti, was presented to first-year students who have performed well in both academics and sports. Harsh Choudhary, State president of National Student Union of India; Nitu Sharma, Indian Youth Congress secretary; and S.C.Vats, senior Congress MLA, attended the function.
