Police announce traffic diversions for I-Day

CHENNAI : Security has been stepped up in sensitive areas in view of the Independence Day celebrations to be held in the city on Tuesday.

The Chennai city police have announced certain diversions in the movement of traffic, which will be in force from 6 a.m. on August 15 till the celebrations are over.

The stretch of Kamarajar Salai from Napier Bridge to War Memorial, the stretch of Rajaji Salai from War Memorial to RBI subway North and Flag Staff Road will be closed for all vehicular traffic other than vehicles with car passes.

Vehicles plying on Kamarajar Salai and intending to proceed towards Parrys Corner via Rajaji Salai may take the route via Swami Sivananda Salai, Anna Salai, Muthusamy Bridge, Muthusamy Road, R A Mandram and NFS Road to reach Parrys Corner.

Vehicles coming on Rajaji Salai and intending to proceed towards Kamarajar Salai may take the route via NFS Road, R A Mandram, Muthusamy Road, Muthusamy Bridge, Anna Salai and Swami Sivananda Salai to reach Kamarajar Salai.

Vehicles coming from Muthusamy Bridge/Anna Salai and intending to proceed towards Parrys corner/Kamarajar Salai via Flag Staff Road may take the route via Muthusamy Bridge, Muthusamy Road, R A Mandram and NFS Road to reach Parrys Corner and Anna Salai, Swami Sivananda Salai to Kamarajar Salai.

Vehicles with red colour car pass before 8 a.m. will take Rajaji Salai and stop inside Secretariat near in-Gate I. After alighting, the vehicles will be parked in front of St Mary's Church.

Vehicles coming after 8 a.m. will take Flag Staff Road and enter Fort St George through George Gate. They should follow the same instruction as given to blue colour car passes.

Vehicles with blue colour car passes will take the route either via Flag Staff Road and Wallajah Gate or via Muthusamy Bridge, Muthusamy Road, Esplanade Road, NSC Bose Road, Parrys Corner and RBI subway to reach Secretariat out Gate for disembarkation.

The vehicles will be parked in the parking lot existing opposite the Secretariat.

Vehicles without car pass will stop near War Memorial and the vehicles will be parked inside Island Ground via Exhibition Ground entrance on Anna Salai.

MTC buses carrying school and college students will let passengers alight on Flag Staff Road and after alighting those buses will be parked on Anna Salai near Munro Statue, the note issued here on Sunday said.
