CHENNAI: Chandrakesavan (42), who was detained in the Central jail here on charges of murdering a person in 2004, died after he suffered a heart attack. Chintadripet police said on Sunday that Chandrakesavan had murdered Rajendran in Abiramapuram police station limits, over a petty dispute. Since then he was in the prison. On Saturday night, when he complained of uneasiness, he was rushed to the government hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival. A case has been registered and further investigation is on, police added.
Four detained
Chintadripet police detained four persons under charges of dowry harassment here on Sunday. Police said Kadhar Basha (22), who was married in March this year, had allegedly demanded dowry from his wife Mamta Begum. Unable to bear the torture, she had committed suicide. An RDO inquiry was ordered. Based on the findings, police arrested Kadhar Basha, his mother Maboo Bi and his two sisters and remanded to custody.
Held under Goondas Act
Chennai City Commissioner of Police Letika Saran detained Christopher (45) of Ambattur in Goondas Act on charges of hoarding and transporting rice meant for sale through PDS outlets. According to Civil Supplies CID police, they seized 55 bags of boiled rice from the accused who was planning to smuggle it Andhra Pradesh. The accused was involved in smuggling over 250 bags of rice in lorries in two cases from Chennai to other destinations.
