I have been visiting NIMS regularly for the last three months as one of my relatives had fractured his leg and was admitted there. During my visits, I have noticed that the wheelchairs and stretchers in the outpatient ward of the hospital fall short of patients' requirements. As a result, sometimes patients with broken bones have no option but to hop to the doctor. Even the stretchers and wheelchairs available are rusted and broken. I have also noticed that the patients who come to get admitted have to go through a harrowing time, as it is time-consuming and irksome. I have seen many a patient leaving the premises fuming and venting their anger over not being able to get admitted, thanks to the lackadaisical approach of the officials concerned. I request the Director, NIMS, to get the process of the admission of patients streamlined. Md R. Osman, BHEL Thermocol Ganeshas It would be a good idea to make thermocol Ganeshas to avoid preparation and pollution hurdles. The material is light and cheap and can be moulded into any shape. Such idols neither require tonnes of iron, plaster of Paris and wood or dangerous substances like nickel, mercury and turpentine, nor do they pollute the water in which they are immersed. Kamal Sani, A.G. Colony Afternoon train needed People working in the industrial area near Fatehnagar regularly come from Hafeezpet station to Fatehnagar by MMTS. Morning shift starts at 6 a.m. and ends by 2 p.m. and middle shift starts at 2 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. There is no train facility between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Lingampally route. Those attending the middle shift therefore face many problems. We request the authorities concerned to introduce a train after 12 noon. M. Babu Rao, Hafeezpet Provide toilets There is no Sulabh facility for the public anywhere around General Post Office in Abids. Can I expect authorities to arrange this facility immediately? Hundreds of people throng the area and surrounding places everyday. S. Lakshmi Narasaiah, Khairatabad Upgrade rail facilities The Indian Railways has once again hiked the fares of the sleeper class through back-door mechanism by conveniently upgrading the express trains to `super fast' status when they deserve no such tag. Punctuality of all categories of trains is slip-shod and there remains a glaring gap between the claims of the authorities and facts. As far as suburban trains are concerned, punctuality is a casualty with detention at outer signals being a daily occurrence. SCR laments that MMTS and other DMHU trains suffer from lack of patronage, while SCR authorities overlook the fact that poor frequency, little linkage for connecting trains and lack of punctuality are the norm and customers cannot afford to waste precious time. SCR needs to tone up the machinery and provide MMTS facility to Bolarum-bound passengers. Exclusive counters should be opened for purchase of local train tickets. Frequency of local trains needs toning up with emphasis on morning hours. The timings should be synchronised with connecting trains. Ponnada Srinivas Prasad, Malkajgiri Pedestrians' travails Due to increase in commercial activity around Habsiguda crossroads, it is becoming extremely difficult for pedestrians to across the road. The following steps are suggested to alleviate the woes of pedestrians at Habsiguda: incorporate pedestrian crossing signal facility in the existing traffic signal set up; increase the height of the road divider to prevent motorists from taking a u-turn wherever they like; install blinkers at Road no. 3 junction; install a foot overbridge at a suitable place. G.V. Ratnam, Habsiguda
