Adarsha Ratna award presented

Adarsha Sugam Sangeeta Academy Trust celebrates 10th anniversary

Bangalore: Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha K. Rehman Khan on Sunday presented the Adarsha Ratna award to writer Kayyara Kinhanna Rai. He also presented Adarsha Kala Ratna award to actor Jayanti, Adarsha Sugam Sangeeta award to C. Ashwath, and Adarsh Laya Vaadya award to percussionist Anoor Ananta Krishna Sharma.

Transport Minister N. Chaluvarayaswamy spoke about the popularity of Kikkeri Krishnamurthy's rendition of light classical songs. Mr. Krishnamurthy is the president of Adarsha Sugam Sangeeta Academy Trust. Chairman of Karnataka Sugam Sangeeta Parishat Y.K. Muddukrishna released compact discs containing songs on Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala brought out by the trust.

"Music soothes the soul within; it has no barriers. Good music has the power to make a person hale and healthy," said D.T. Jayakumar, Minister for Housing.

Shashidhar Kote, musician, lauded the efforts of Mr. Krishnamurthy.

Markandeyapuram Srinivas, Director of Department of Kannada and Culture, also lauded the efforts of Mr. Krishnamurthy and said music had the power to unite people across barriers.

Venkatesh Sudheendra, public relation officer, and M.R.V. Prasad, physician, were felicitated. Shantaveera Mahaswami of Kolada Math and Jayshree Aravind, trustee of the organisation, were present.
