`No obscene acts will be allowed'

HYDERABAD: The city police on Sunday denied permission for Bollywood performer Rakhi Sawant's show at Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium in Yosufguda.

Ms. Sawant, who arrived in the city for the show, left for Mumbai in the evening after spending the entire day at a hotel in Banjara Hills. "She was to have left on Monday morning but with the show getting cancelled she advanced her flight all by herself, taking a business class ticket," one of the organisers said. The `item girl' who was in the news after lodging a complaint against Indipop singer Mika for allegedly misbehaving with her at his birthday party came to the city to perform at the annual general body meeting of Suchir India Developers Private Limited.

    The show goes on

The police refused permission to the `Pardesiya' girl stating that the organisers had not mentioned her name in the list of performers when they originally obtained permission for the show. A host of artistes, including singing star Vasundhara Das, Telugu film actresses — Sangeetha and Tanu Rai, performed at the show, which took off minus Ms. Sawant.

Jubilee Hills Inspector M. Srinivas Rao said the organisers took permission for only the general body meeting, light music programme by Ms. Das and presentation of awards to the company personnel. On Sunday afternoon, the event managers informed the police that Rakhi Sawant was also performing in the show and the police flatly denied permission saying "no obscene acts will be allowed."

"It is clearly a violation of conditions. The organisers did not inform us about her programme," the Inspector said.

A series of shows of the actress were denied permission in May when she went on a tour of Maharashtra.

While performing in Kolhapur on May 18, a case was registered against her for obscene costumes and gestures.

A few days later, the Akola district administration refused permission for her show and the Satara police followed suit.
