NEW DELHI: The owner of a re-possessing agency authorised by Kotak Mahindra Bank to seize the vehicles whose instalments are not cleared, and his three "henchmen" have been arrested by the South-West Delhi police on charges of forcibly taking away a Maruti Wagon-R car from an old woman at Sarojini Nagar on July 25. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West Delhi) R.S. Yadav, around 11-30 am on July 25, Lakshmi Bansal was on her way to her Yashwant Place office in Chanakyapuri in her Wagon-R, along with her driver Huzman and accountant Kishore, when some persons in a white Maruti car intercepted them near Sarojini Nagar flyover. Two persons alighted from the vehicle, overpowered the driver, slapped him and one of them forced his way into the driving seat. The other sat with Ms. Bansal on the rear seat. Ms. Bansal managed to inform her relatives back home over her mobile phone that she was being abducted. The culprits then snatched away her and her accountant's mobile phones. Her relatives called up the Police Control Room for help. Investigations revealed that the vehicle had been financed from Kotak Mahindra Bank and its two installations were due. The police tracked down the vehicle to a Punjabi Bagh godown of the bank the same day. The victims were also dropped near the godown. According to Mr. Yadav, it came to light that Kotak Mahindra Bank had authorised one Chaudhary Repossession Company to reclaim the vehicles whose instalments had not been paid. The police arrested the company's proprietor Ashwani Sirohi and his "henchmen" Kamalluddin, Vinod Kumar and Sandeep. uring interrogation, the accused confessed to having forcibly seized Ms. Bansal's car. "In this regard, court guidelines are clear that no violent methods should be adopted to affect re-possession of such vehicles and prior intimation should be given to the local police. ," said Mr. Yadav.
