Certain restrictions on vehicular movement

  • `As many as 1,300 police personnel would be deployed for Independence Day duty'
  • No commercial, transport and passenger vehicles would be allowed on Ring Road from 2 p.m.

NEW DELHI: Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure smooth flow of traffic during the Independence Day celebrations in the Capital. Certain restrictions on vehicular movement have been imposed as part of the security arrangements.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Qamar Ahmed, as many as 1,300 police personnel would be deployed for Independence Day duty. Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chhatta Rail, Lothian Road from Delhi GPO to Chhatta Rail, S.P.M. Marg from H. C. Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk, Chandni Chowk from fountain to Red Fort Chowk, New Darya Ganj Road from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg and Link Road from Esplanade road to Netaji Subhash Marg will be closed to traffic from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Hence, motorists have been advised to use Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Mother Teresa Road and Rani Jhasi Road to reach their destinations in North Delhi and vice-versa.

No commercial, transport and passenger vehicles would be allowed on Ring Road from 2 p.m. on August 14 to 11 a.m. on August 15. Inter-State buses will not ply between Maharana Pratap Inter-State Bus Terminus and Sarai Kale Khan Bus Terminus from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m., whereas city buses have been advised to avoid Ring Road from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. between Hanuman Setu and Bhairon Road T-point.

Vehicles with "triangular parking labels", which should take Ring Road and New Darya Ganj Road to reach Red Fort, will be allowed to park inside Red Fort while parking arrangements for vehicles bearing "square labels", which should reach Delhi Gate and proceed via Subhash Marg, have been made behind the Recruitment Centre, Red Fort.

Mr. Ahmed said there will be no restrictions for vehicles heading to J.P.N. Hospital or any other hospital. "People intending to go to Old Delhi railway station from South Delhi are advised to use Mother Teresa Marg, Rani Jhansi Marg, Pul Duffrin and S.P.M. Marg," he said.

"Those coming from other directions can take Ring Road, Kela Ghat Road, Zorawar Singh Marg, Mori Gate, Pul Duffrin to reach the station," he said, adding that there were not restrictions on vehicles heading to New Delhi railway Station, except that parking would not be allowed. Those invited to the function at Red Fort have been advised not to bring mobile phones, cameras, binoculars, bags, briefcases, water bottles and transistors.
