Biopharma research centre to come up in Tirupati

TIRUPATI: Sugen Life Sciences, a biopharmaceutical research organisation (BRO), will set up a state-of-the art research centre in Tirupati.

A foundation stone was laid for the proposed centre at a function here on Sunday.

N. Appaji Rao, Emeritus Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, presiding over the function welcomed the decision to set up a modern research centre in this backward region. SVU Vice-Chancellor S. Jayarama Reddy, who laid the foundation stone, stressed the importance of emerging trends in biotechnology. Damodar Reddy, Chief Mentor, Sugen Life Sciences, gave a profile of the organisation and said it would focus on research in cancer biology, development of drugs from natural plants and promotion of biotechnology studies among the young.
