KANCHEEPURAM: The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam, has been declared a prohibited area by the Army, which has taken over the security of the power plant following a terrorist threat. Enquiries reveal that District Collector Pradeep Yadav, Superintendent of Police A. Amalraj, and other officials were summoned by the Army on Monday and informed about the decision. The State Government officials have been told that any suspicious movement in the vicinity of the power plant i.e. up to 200 metres, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. would be dealt with seriously. To disseminate news about the clamping of prohibitory orders, State Government officials were directed to make announcements in the surrounding villages using the `tom-tom' method. They were also advised to sensitise their village-level subordinate government staff, sources said. Apart from taking steps to curb the movement of unwanted elements, it has been decided to frisk thoroughly every person and search all vehicles at check posts set up at Sadras Rountana, Manamai, Vembakkam and Kokilamedu. A team of armed men have been posted at a hillock between the power plant and Manamai village.
