Tension over `missing' infant, found later

WARANGAL: Mild tension prevailed at Government Maternity Hospital at Hanamkonda when the parents found their just-born baby boy missing on Monday. According to J. Surender Reddy, CI, B. Latha of Jaigiri in Hasanparthy mandal who gave birth to the boy a week ago found him missing. Her relatives and villagers, who came in large numbers to the hospital, created a furore accusing hospital staff of stealing the boy. Meanwhile, a beggar approached the CI saying that he found the boy outside the hospital and took him home. The police went to his place in Warangal and secured the boy. - Staff Reporter

Minister gheraoed

ADILABAD: Labour Minister G. Vinod was grilled by angry villagers of Pendalwada in Jainad mandal over `meagre' flood relief. About 100 villagers questioned Mr. Vinod over the inadequate aid of Rs. 1,000 to each of the affected family. - Staff Reporter

Record hundi income

Tirumala: The temple has netted a record hundi income of Rs. 4 crores in the last three days. On Monday, it crossed Rs.1 crore. The income excludes coin currency which officials store in the temple godown. The hundi also received several kg of gold, silver and precious stones. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Board of Intermediate Education has extended the date for admission to vocational courses for first year Intermediate up to August 31. Board Secretary R.P. Sisodia announced the extension of date in a press release here on Monday. - Special Correspondent

`Oust non-Hindu hawkers'

HYDERABAD: The BJP has said that families of Muslim and Christian hawkers living on the Tirumala hills should be asked to leave the place before next Brahmotsavam. In a statement here on Monday, party vice-president S.V. Seshagiri Rao said TTD Executive Officer A.P.V.N. Sarma had accepted that some families of Muslims and Christians were living at Balajinagar. He said rules permit persons of other religions to have darshan of the Lord but not live on the hills. - Special Correspondent

Puvvada recovering

HYDERABAD: Senior CPI leader Puvvada Nageswara Rao who underwent a bypass surgery at a private hospital here on August 7 is likely to be discharged either on Tuesday or Wednesday, according to members of his family. Worker electrocuted

KADAPA: Bihari worker Chota Kumar Yadav (21) was electrocuted while working in a plastic manufacturing unit at Kadapa Industrial Estate on Monday. Nine workers from Bihar were engaged in the unit. - Staff Reporter

Man, son killed

KADAPA: A man and his son were killed and nine others were injured when a jeep hit an overloaded autorickshaw at Anumpalle, near Sibyala, in Tsundupalle mandal on Monday. Subbarayudu (40) and his son Nagendra Babu (8) died on the spot. - Staff Reporter

Gulf War compensation

WARANGAL: M. Stephen Ravindra, SP, on Monday said the United Nations Compensation Commission had decided to compensate those who lost their properties in Kuwait during the Gulf War. He urged those who lived in Kuwait during 1990 and 1991 and hailing from the district to furnish details before August 20 to the District Police Office. blacklisted

ANANTAPUR: The Women and Child Welfare Department of the Union Government blacklisted two non-governmental organisations functioning in the district, district Collector Dasari Kadmial said here on Monday.

Rural Integrated and Social Education Society (RISES) of Bangaru Chinnepalli in Kothacheruvu mandal and Yuvajana Chaitanya Sangham of Udugulapalli of Hindupur Rural mandal were blacklisted due to non-repayment of micro loans taken from `Rashtriya Mahila Kosh Society', he said. - Staff Reporter

`Akshay Urja Diwas' on August 20

ANANTAPUR: Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas would be celebrated in the district on August 20 by conducting competitions for college students on the utilisation of non-conventional energy sources, district Collector Dasari Kadmial said here on Monday. Man run over by RTC bus

KURNOOL: A person identified as Mallikarjuna (30) of Pamulapadu was run over by an APSRTC bus near Municipal Office here on Monday. According to reports, the person who was undergoing treatment for mental illness for some time freed himself from the caretakers and threw himself under the running bus. He died on the spot. - Staff Reporter

Demonstration by displaced families

KURNOOL: The families, which were displaced by widening of the National Highway-7, staged a demonstration at the Collectorate here on Monday. They said about 60 families were living near Krishna Nagar for the last 10 years. They asked the authorities for alternative accommodation. - Staff Reporter
