Salem: Naviin Prasad made it a memorable day winning four titles in the Salem district junior and senior badminton championship conducted by the Salem District Badminton Association at the Salem Fairlands Recreation Club courts here on Sunday. Double for Prakash
C. Prakash of Ootacamund Shuttlers won the men's singles and doubles titles in the annual district badminton championship in Udhagamandalam on Sunday. Prakash beat Rajasekar 21-15, 21-14 in singles and later paired with Manjunath to defeat Arun Srikanth and Rajasekar 22-20, 21-10 to make it a grand double. Rajesh Naga, Vice-President, TNBA, and Janab Haji V.A. Mohammed Jaffer, President, NMVU Sangam, gave away the prizes. The results (all finals): Singles: Boys: Under-19: Jitesh Kotadia (Law) bt Maniknath (CNR) 18-21, 21-15, 21-18; Men: C. Prakash bt Rajasekar 21-15, 21-14; Women: Aparna Kirti Gautama bt Aditi Swati Gautama 15-21, 21-14, 21-15. Mepco wins title
Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, won the title in the Anna University Zone 10 inter-engineering women's table tennis tournament defeating Government Engineering College, Tirunelveli 3-1 in the final in Tiruchendur recently. In the third place match, National Engineering College, Kovilpatti beat the host Sivanthi Adithanar Engineering College 3-1. In the semifinals, Mepco beat National EC 3-2 and Govt EC Tirunelveli bt Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar College 3-2.
AKCE triumphs
Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering, Krishnankovil beat host PSN College of Engineering 60-48 in the final of the Anna University Zone 10 inter-engineering men's basketball tournament in Tirunelveli on Saturday. The results: Final: AKCE 60 (Yogesh 12, Vivek 12, Sasi 10) bt PSNCE 48 (Ramjee 12, Nagarajan 12, Parthiban 10). Third place: Mepco Schlenk EC, Sivakasi bt Dr. Sivanthi Athithanar CE, Tiruchendur 32-20. Semifinals: AKCE bt Dr. Svianthi CE 28-14; PSNCE bt MEPCO, Sivakasi 49-46.
