Armed Police crowned champion

DINDIGUL:Armed Police (Chennai) lifted the Ravi Memorial Trophy defeating Manmaark Basketball Club (Madurai) 48-38 in the final of the 28th annual State-level Open basketball tournament organised by Rotary Club of Dindigul West and MSP Solai Nadar Memorial Higher Secondary School at the school ground here on Sunday night.

Armed Police led all the way to clinch the issue. Chandra Mohan top-scored for Police with 18 points.

Sethu Basketball Club (Madurai) pipped A.N.D. Basketball Academy (Tiruchi) 49-48 to finish third.

The results (final): Armed Police (Chennai) 48 (Chandra Mohan 18, Rajendran 13) bt Maanmark BC 38 (V. Siva 12, Athiganesh 10).

Third place: Sethu BC 49 (C. Palanivelrajan 20, M. Marimuthukumar 12) bt ANDBA (Tiruchi) 48 (A. Nagaraj 13, P. Mohan Kumar 12).

Silambarasan wins title

Silambarasan of Chennai won the boys' under-18 title, while Sri Vidhya of Madurai won the girls' under-18 title in the 48th Tamil Nadu State junior carrom championship for boys and girls organised by Madurai District Carrom Association at Madurai on Sunday.

The results: (all finals): Boys: U-18: Silambarasan (Che) bt Stalin (Che) 25-19, 25-21.

U-14: Dilli Babu (Che) bt Sriram (Mdu) 25-12, 25-10.

U-12: S. Vigneswaran (Che) bt V.R. Venkateswaran (Mdu) 25-9, 11-25, 25-18.

Girls: U-18: Sri Vidhya (Mdu) bt Maheswari (Che) 14-25, 25-22, 25-11.

U-14: Sarayu Rithambara (Vnr) bt Kanagathara (Mdu) 25-3, 25-0.

U-12: Abirami (Vnr) bt Parveen (Mdu) 25-21, 25-15.

Plezington hits century

A scintillating century by Plezington (101) and a breezy 65 by Selvam helped Pusco Cricket Club crush Pope's Cricket Club by 206 runs and enter the quarterfinals of the 17th annual L.P. Rayen Memorial Trophy district-level cricket tournament organised by TDCA at Tuticorin on Monday.
