CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has said that the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) would soon cover Punjab under its 100 per cent drip irrigation programme. Speaking on the occasion of "Vanmahotsav" after planting a sapling on the premises of the Punjab Assembly, Capt. Singh said that drip irrigation was one of the most effective and comprehensive methods that would change the agricultural scenario in the State. Referring to his recent visit to Mumbai, he said NABARD had cleared all the pending proposals of the State Government worth Rs.224 crores under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund. Speaker of the Assembly, Kewal Krishan, Deputy Speaker, Darbari Lal, Local Government and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Jagjit Singh and Minister of State for Forests, Hans Raj Josan also planted saplings. Capt. Singh also unveiled a portrait of Le Corbusier, the architect who conceptualised Chandigarh city, at the entry hall of the Punjab Assembly and also inaugurated the reading room of the library.
