BANGALORE: G.A. Stany of Shimoga won the boys' title in the State under-19 chess championship with a perfect score of seven points out of seven rounds while A. Balakishan and P.P. Prachura finished second and third respectively, with six points apiece. In the girls' section, K. Shruthi of Shimoga bagged the title with 4.5 points. Pavitra Jagtap was the runner-up with four points and Shristi Shetty, finished third with 3.5 points. The final positions (top five): 1.G.A. Stany (7), 2. A. Balakishan (6), 3. P.P. Prachura (6), 4. Kedar Umesh Vaze (5.5), 5. Prakash V.Rao (5). Girls: 1. Shruthi (4.5), 2. Pavitra Jagtap (4), 3. Shristi Shetty (3.5), 4. Soumya Umesh Vaze (3.5), 5. S. Priyanka (3.5).
Sanjay is top seed
N. Sanjay with a FIDE-rating of 2357 is the top seed for the Malleswaram Association's FIDE- rating Karnataka chess championship, which gets underway at the club hall on Wednesday. The tournament which carries an overall prize money of Rs. 40,000 has attracted more than 150 entries which also includes seasoned campaigners like M.S. Tej Kumar, Arvind Sastry, Sriram Sarja, G.A. Stany, Naveen Hegde, Girish Kaushik, R. Hanumantha, besides Asian under-8 bronze medallist M. Satvik. The 10 round championship will be played under Swiss League.
ANZ corporate throwball

Double delight for SBMJC
Shree Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College won the men's hockey title and the women's basketball title in the inter-collegiate sports meet organised by the Christ College here. SBMJC defeated St. Joseph's College of Commerce 5-4 in hockey, while SMBJC girls humbled Mount Carmel College 42-24 after leading 23-11 at half-time in basketball.
KIOC team for England
A team, comprising trainees of the Karnataka Institute of Cricket left for England on August12 to play series of matches at Manchester, Worcetershire, Dewsbury and London. The touring KIOC team is partly co-sponsored by Tata Coffee and Standford Cricket Equipments.
Satish in final
Satish Kumar (+20) rallied to beat fancied Vinay Katrela (Scr) 76-100, 81-102, 100-75, 101-96, 104-72 and enter the final of the 34th B.S. Sampath Memorial handicap billiards tournament at the KSBA hall in Bangalore. Satish now awaits the winner of D. Rajkumar v Muddabir Ahmed clash. Quarterfinals results: Vinay Katrela bt L. Mysore Gymkhana
The Mysore City Gymkhana registered an exciting one-wicket win over Vijaya Cricketers in a KSCA Mysore Zone second division league encounter played at Gangothri grounds recently. The scores: Second division: Vijaya Cricketers 144 in 42.2 overs lost to The Mysore City Gymkhana 147 for nine in 40.5 overs (Somashekar 40); New National CC (N'gud) 200 in 40.3 overs (Kiran Shetty 43) bt Karavali CC 84 in 19.1 overs (Vinay Kumar five for seven); Young Cricketers 202 in 47.2 overs (Mithun Nanjappa 83, M.P. Nityananda 47) drew with Mysore City Gymkhana (match called off due to rain). Third division: KR Nagar CC 83 in 30.3 overs (Srinivas five for 12) lost to Vijaya CC (Hunsur) 84 for seven in 24.3 overs; Jawahar's (Mandya) 193 in 45.3 overs (Shashi Manu 50, Babu Bhatta 55, Manju four for 31) bt Kollegal CC 131 in 47.2 overs.
