NEW DELHI: Jan Morcha president Raj Babbar on Monday announced that former Prime Minister V.P. Singh would lead an agitation in protest against "the anti-farmer and anti-poor policies of the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government" at the Kisan Rally to be organised at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh this coming Thursday. Addressing a joint press conference here, Mr. Babbar along with Delhi Nationalist Congress president Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said it was unfortunate that those who had come to power on the slogan of socialism were today displacing lakhs of people, farmers and farm labourers in the name of development to oblige a few multinational companies and industrial houses. "It is sad that people including the poor are being uprooted to benefit a handful of beneficiaries. The U.P. Government is working as an agent of industrial houses and foreign companies rather than working for the welfare of the people and the downtrodden sections of society,'' Mr. Babbar said. Demanding adequate compensation and development package for the farmers whose land was being acquired for private companies, Mr. Babbar said the NCP along with Union Labour Minister Chandra Shekhar Rao of Telangana Rashstra Samiti (TRS) would accompany Mr. V.P. Singh during the rally and agitation. Mr. Babbar had harsh words for the Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh whom he termed him as a "glorified middleman'' who was working hand in glove with certain vested interests to sell UP.
