ADILABAD: The Government has enhanced compensation for houses damaged in the recent heavy rainfall and floods. For fully damaged houses compensation has been increased from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2,000 and for partly damaged houses it has been increased from Rs. 750 to Rs. 1,200. A G.O. (No. 1157) was issued in this regard on Sunday. The cumulative loss caused by floods in Adilabad district was put at Rs. 42 crores officially. Crops were destroyed in over 58,000 acres, which includes soil erosion and sand casting in 4,500 acres. Cotton was lost in over 30,000 acres while soyabean crop was lost in nearly 13,000 acres. About 2,000 houses were fully damaged while nearly 13,000 houses were damaged partly in the calamity in 39 mandals in the district. Among other losses were damage to horticultural crops in 465 acres, which amounted to about Rs. 4 crores and death of 540 livestock amounting to Rs. 16 lakhs. In 49 villages medical teams organised special camps to control the outbreak of epidemics.
